Kirkwood Builders of Arizona is a family-run general contractor in Sedona. We build custom homes, remodel existing ones, take on commercial work, and frame for other builders. Steve Adams has been building in this area since 1983. The company has operated under more than one name in that time, always under his direction, and was reorganized as Kirkwood Builders of Arizona LLC in 2020.
Two generations
Steve Adams, founder
Steve started building in the Sedona area in 1983 and has been at the head of the company ever since. He is still actively involved in the work.
Casey Adams
Casey grew up working alongside Steve. He left for college, then spent eight years with The Penta Building Group, a general contractor running large commercial projects, first as a project engineer and then as a project superintendent. He returned to the family company full time in 2013 and manages day-to-day operations. Kirkwood has continued to take commercial work since, so that side of the experience did not stop in 2013.
Both sides of the same wall
Since 1983 this company has done two different jobs. We have built houses start to finish as the general contractor, and we have framed houses for other general contractors to finish. We still do both.
That is also why you will not find a homes-built count on this page. Count the framing work and we would be claiming houses we did not build. Leave it out and we erase most of four decades. Neither number would be honest, so we will give you the years instead: since 1983, in this area, doing both.
It has a practical side. On every remodel we open up somebody else’s framing and find out how they did it. It is a useful thing to have seen when a client wants to know what is behind their own drywall.
Licensed and insured
Kirkwood Builders of Arizona LLC holds Arizona ROC license #328394 (ROC Public Lookup), a KB-2 Dual Residential and Small Commercial classification, licensing us for custom residential construction and commercial projects up to $2 million. We carry general liability insurance, and certificates are available on request.
